Before and after: Kinveachy Gardens

Before and after: An inside and out refurbishment at Kinveachy Gardens, Charlton

Bringing fresh grandeur to period properties is something we specialise in at Sentinel Design and Build, and this Victorian house on Kinveachy Gardens in Charlton gave us the opportunity to apply all our expertise, keeping the character of the structure while updating it as per our client’s requirements.

This was a full house refurbishment including everything from reconfiguring the ground floor through to electrics, kitchen and bathroom installation, box sash windows and restoring the external brickwork.

Here are a few highlights in before-and-after format – if you have a Victorian house, they might give you some inspiration and ideas for what’s possible.

A lounge with character

Kinveachy Lounge Before & After

Part of the extensive ground floor reconfiguration that was carried out included a complete redecoration of the lounge. Dated and drab, the existing décor was replaced in a way that honoured the room’s remaining Victorian features, such as that lovely iron fireplace.

Unique glass globe lighting, an arts and crafts feature wall and new sash windows bring together the traditional and modern elements of our client’s taste.

Refreshing the brick work

Kinveachy Exterior Before & After

Part of this home’s rich character is in the materials originally used to build it, however the front exterior had been painted over.

We put that right by removing the paint and restoring and repairing the brick work, which was revealed to be a warm, orangey-red colour. It looks glorious in the sunshine.

New look master bedroom

Master bedroom: before and after

Our client wanted a new look and feel for the main bedroom, which was completely redecorated.

A new built-in wardrobe helps make better use of space in this room – sleek and subtle the bespoke wardrobe fits in neatly and makes the rest of the room look a little more spacious thanks to the skills of our carpentry and joinery team.

Spare room magic

Kinveachy Spare Room Before & After

The spare bedroom also benefited from a complete décor makeover. Little changes everywhere will often bring character back to a room in a house like this one. Here removing the picture rail gives the space a more up-to-date and relaxed vibe, as does reducing the amount of shelving.

As for the double-width radiator, that was overkill and is likely to have been inefficient. Our plumbing and heating experts replaced it with one suited to the space.
